Overheard in a coffee shop, long conversation between two men about attempts to get more muscular (both were very tall and skinny) and one said to the other “I just wanna be that guy, you know? -I have this devestating AU in my head where Claude and Byleth are married in secret but not publically due to the tensions between Almyra and Fódlan

-They work towards unification in large part to be together

-But it’s been decades now and it hasn’t happened

-They have kids

-Three with a fourth on the way

-Everyone kind of knows the Queen’s dark featured children aren’t a case of immaculate conception

-But no one talks about it

-And they certainly don’t talk about how the eldest looks more and more like the King of Almyra with every passing day

-Or how the Almyran King showers the children with elaborate presents whenever he has the chance

-Or how he was named their God-father

-Or how each time the Queen goes into bed rest awaiting delivery King Claude Al-Kir magically finds a reason to make a very urgent, not at all personal diplomatic trip

-When their fourth child is on the way Claude finally sees that things are good enough for a new approach

-He showers the people of Fódlan in riches onnhis trip to Derdriu

-trying to drum up more goodwill

-He makes his usual tribute to the monarch and her children

-He gets ponies for his daughter’s

-Because of course he does

-And to his son he gifts a stack of precious Almyran literature

-And to Byleth he makes a plea

-“I am sadly not so blessed by the gods of fertility as you majesty. I have no heirs and no hope of making more”

-He says to his very pregnant wife, currently mother of three

-Lorenz is rolling his eyes so hard at the round table that they might as well be falling from his head

-Jerry, their oldest, is gagging

-“If you could find it in your heart to accept a childless man into yoir family I will make your children the heirs of all my holdings”

-Byleth agrees and a royal wedding is held

-Turns out the reason Claude felt so comfortable doing all this is because he held a banquet where he poisoned the entirety of his opposition in preperation

-Obviously, the laws of hospitality say this is a big no-no

-So word starts to drum up around the people that King Claude is handing Almyra to a foreign prince and has murdered guests under his protection

-Byleth, upon hearing this, thinks it was a sloppy move

-But Claude breaks down

-His eldest son is of age now

-His daughters will follow suit soon too

-And he is to sit back and miss a fourth child’s entire life??

-He misses his wife

-He’s a stranger to his children

-Ruth class him Your Majesty rather than Baba

-He wants to raise a child

-He just wants to be with his family

-Over 20 years is a long time to be alone in a sea of the people working actively tonkeep you from everything you love

-Jerry hears all of this

-He decides it’s time to do could old Baba proud

-Jerry calls his father to Gronder Field

-He tells him to bring his most trusted, capable soldiers

-And then and there he declares his intention to win Almyra rather than be gifted it

-He knows if anything will win him the respect of the people it is deeds

-Not his father’s desperate schemes

-The battle ensues and, from the deepest parts of Garreg Mach, Jerry has sent for his father’s old weapons

-The Sword of Begalta and Failnaught

-No one’s supposed to know Jerry has his father’s crest

-and in this way he basically confirms that, yeah, fuck you! I’m his son!

-He beats Claude’s army with these divune weapons (obviously)

-And becomes King of Almyra right then and there

-Forcing his father into retirement

-“Oh no! Now you have all that time you have to spend in the castle with the Queen and her kids and the new baby!!!”

-Claude is a very proud dad that day
